The O.T. is built for long hours, both on the job and hiking, hunting, and trekking. Its “dual sport” design means you can use it for work but also for athletic activities, with support and cushioning on par with my favorite pair of hiking boots.

I love my WorkHogs.
Ariat makes great cowboy boots, but none have been as reliable or as well-performing for farming, ranching, riding, and building as the WorkHogs.
The addition of a composite safety toe, ASTM F2413 rating against electrical hazards, and slip- and oil-resistant Duratread™ sole makes them suited to a job site, but it’s their comfort and reliability that keeps me coming back.
The boots feature ATS® Max technology in the sole that provides cushioning and reduces pressure to prevent foot fatigue even after a long day on the job. The EVA midsole also provides shock absorption with every step, but it’s lightweight enough that it won’t drag on my feet.
Best of all, the boots are waterproof and feature a 12” shaft that keeps my feet dry even in the wettest, rainiest, and muddiest conditions.

In the heat of summer, the last thing I want is for my feet to be cooped up in stuffy leather with zero ventilation and no breathability. That’s a recipe for sweaty, stinky feet, guaranteed.
But after testing the Thorogood Moc Toe boots, I can see why so many users love them. Their non-lined, non-insulated construction allows my feet to breathe so I don’t overheat or get too sweaty to work.
They’re also a lovely work-safe boot; featuring an integrated steel safety toe, MAXWear Wedge™ slip-resistant outsole, and electrical hazard rating. The Brunt Marin is one such. The very reasonable price tag combines with a solid build and work-friendly features (waterproof, safety toe, electrical hazard rated, and oil- and slip-resistant) to make them a pair I had to test for inclusion on this list.
And after wearing them for over six months, I consider them a smart investment.
The wedge outsole, premium cushioned insoles, and rubber foam midsole make them one of the most comfortable work boots I’ve worn. Thanks to their moc toe style, they’re a very handsome choice, too.

On the days I don’t want to bother with laces, the Tecovas Knox roper boots are my favorite choice. Their pull-on style makes them a breeze to slide on and off in a hurry—great for starting the day at full speed or kicking off my shoes and putting up my feet at the end of a work shift.
The boots are also built tough, with full grain leather treated with a weatherproofing finish and seams. They’re actually designed to be washed off, with no leaks or damp seeping through, and are great for rainy, muddy work days.
Comfort-wise, they’ve earned my praise for sure. The combination of a thick wedge sole and shock-absorbing dual footbed makes them one of the most comfortable pairs of roper boots I’ve worn to date.

Who Makes the Lightest Work Boot?
Of all the boots we’ve ever tested on BootSpy, the Oakley Tactical boot is the lightest boot overall—and it can be used for work.
However, we don’t recommend it for workwear because of its nylon upper. The fabric is wonderfully lightweight but doesn’t offer the support, durability, or necessary protection of leather. It also doesn’t have a safety toe or feature any of the safety ratings necessary to make it a work boot.
While having an ultra-lightweight boot is great for keeping your workwear from getting too heavy and reducing foot fatigue, it’s wiser to opt for a slightly heavier boot if it means you get the requisite safety features along with durability that will last you for 5-10 years, rather than just 5-10 months on the job.
